Villa Spiza
Traveling to a place and feeling like you've landed in the best local restaurant for a bite to eat is pretty darn comforting. And that's exactly what went down in Villa Spiza, in Split. This restaurant is run by three sisters who double as DJs, spinning nothing but '80s tunes because, well, that's what they love!
Now, get this: the kitchen is actually across the street, playing a game with passing tourists as the dishes make their way to diners.
A friend took me there, and we picked out two dishes from the handwritten menu: the fish paté and the "gavini" or smelts. Since then we went there everyday; the octopus salad and the mackerel with a side of chard were definite highlights. Can't wait to be back for another taste!
